Year-Round Fun: Must-Attend Events in Myrtle Beach for 2025 As we look ahead to 2025, the Grand Strand is gearing up for another incredible year
For fans of the ocean and the beach — a group that’s likely to include most visitors to the Grand Strand and Monterey Bay Suites — hopping on a surfboard and taking a ride on the ocean waves is a common dream. And for those without much (or any) experience with surfing, the southern Atlantic coastline provides a welcome combination of warm waters and approachable breaks — characteristics that make the Grand Strand a great place to dip your toes into the sport.
If you’re among those who daydream of surfboards, breaking waves and hanging ten, Myrtle Beach vendor Kokopelli Surf Camp could provide just the opportunity you’ve been seeking to get your start in the sport. Offering lessons in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, this locally owned and operated surf school is eager to share its love for water sports with beginners and pros, adults and kids — pretty much anyone with a desire to have some fun on the water.
Each of Kokopelli’s surf instructors boasts a wealth of experience with the sport and with teaching it, and the team’s leader, Brandon Todd, is a pro surfer who has competed in surfing competitions all around the world. Further, to help ensure student safety, all Kokopelli instructors are certified in first aid and CPR, in addition to being well-versed in accident prevention.
To accommodate learners of all types, Kokopelli offers an array of ways to get your start in the sport of surfing, including:
These 1.5-hour lessons (15 minutes on the beach followed by an hour and 15 minutes in the water) are available for as low as $45 per person and are open to aspiring surfers of all ages and skill levels. Your surfboard and all other needed equipment is included, and class size tops out at 15 people. These lessons are scheduled daily in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach.
These lessons — available for small groups or as one-on-one sessions — last 1.5 hours and are available for as low as $55. Your surf instructor will meet you (and your party, if applicable) right on the beach you choose and will bring all needed surfboard(s) and equipment. With this type of lesson, it’s guaranteed that you’ll be standing up and riding waves during your first lesson!
Got a special occasion to celebrate? Make it especially memorable with a surf lesson! This two-hour lesson is perfect for kids’ birthday parties and other fun get-togethers. It can be held at the time and on-beach location of your choosing, and it includes all needed equipment, as well as photography and Kokopelli T-shirts available for purchase. And for groups of 10 or more, a free GoPro camera rental is included for documenting your on-the-water adventures!
Sign your child up for a Kokopelli surf camp, and he or she can spend three days learning from the pros at some of the area’s best surf spots. All needed equipment is provided, and the teacher-to-student ratio is never lower than 1:3. Camp participants also learn about surf games, engage in some friendly surf competition, and head home with some included-in-the-camp-cost (just $180) photos and surf gear. In addition, all participants are guaranteed to catch a wave!
For those eyeing other ways to enjoy the Grand Strand waters, Kokopelli also offers paddleboard tours, rentals and parties, and well as kayak tours, rentals and parties. To learn more about Kokopelli Surf Camp, visit kokopellisurfcamp.com.
